Help! My Hair Is Thinning
Tight braids, ponytails, and cornrows can pull on hair so tightly that the hair can fall out, this can result in hair loss syndrome called Alopecia Areta. If this happens, it's best to choose hairstyles that put less pressure on hair roots. Do not pull hair too tight with ponytails, braids and cornrows.

Hair extensions and hair pieces can sometimes cause traction alopecia too, because their extra weight pulls on existing hair. Pulling hair back tightly for a long time, though, can lead to permanent hair loss.

The good news is: changing your hairstyle usually lets hair grow back. Alopecia Areta caused by an abnormaltiy in the immune system, the body's own immune system attacks the hair follicles and disrupts normal hair formation. Biopsies of affected skin show immune cells inside of the hair follicles where they are not normally present.
Causes
Alopecia areata is sometimes associated with other autoimmune conditions such as:
Vitiligo Lupus Rheumatoid arthritis Ulcerative colitis

Alopecia Areata may also be genetic, and the most common pattern of alopecia areata is one or more spots of hair loss on the scalp.

More generalized thinning of the hair, referred to as diffuse alopecia areata, occurs throughout the scalp and occassionally, all of the scalp hair is lost, a condition referred to as alopecia totalis. This tends to occur most often in children, teens, and young adults and should not be confused with hair shedding. So, please ladies before you get those braids or weaves done, make sure you have a plan. If you have any questions concerning the above please feel free and call for consultation .
