HELP! Which Haircut Is Right For Face SHAPE

Hello everyone! I know getting a haircut can be a challenge. Especially if you are not sure which cut best suits your face. When a client comes to me yearning for haircut that change I always take it extremely personal. It is necessary that you and your stylist are on the same page. This is when a consultation is needed. Before I start this life changing decision I request of the client that he or she go home and look through magazines and surf the Internet for a style that they wish to achieve.

Once the client has pulled together all the styles they desire I then ask them to come back for us to look at what they have come up with. This way we are all on the same page. What I usually do is look at all the styles the client has come up with. And, then come up with a custom cut that suits they face shape, structure of their head and lifestyle. Now, journey begins. I have noticed alot of us desire to look like the Beyonces and the Rhiannas and even the Halles but we must keep in mind that because that haircut may look good on them it may not be flattering for us. To start this journey let's determine your face shape. Tie your hair back into a ponytail. Then look straight at the mirror. You need to focus on your jawline. See if your face is round,oval,heart shaped or square. Your jawline is what determines what length your new cut should be. Look at your profile in the mirror. If you have a sharp angle where your jaw turns to meet your ear you are lucky you can pull off almost any length of hair. Round Face Soft choppy styles like layer cut around the cheeks work better for round face than pin straight flat or sleek styles do. Layers that fall around the cheekbone will shade them and cause the face to look more narrow. Volume on the crown will create a domed look that adds height and elongates the roundness of the face. Oval face This is the perfect face shape due to it's popularity and versatility. People that have this shape can get away with any haircut but you must be careful about your very short look. Your face maybe classic Oval but if your scalp isn't beautifully shaped a shortcut can look like a mishap. Long Face The best decision for this shape face is to make it look shorter. You can do this with see through bangs and chin length cuts. While straight bobs make the face more elongated. The thickest and fullest part of the hair should rest behind the ears and be soft and low on the crown. Square Face Square faces should avoid short crop symmetry or anything geometric these styles makes the squareness more pronounced. Instead go for soft curves which will soften the severity of the square jawline. A voluminous point at the crown this will also defray from the square outline. Light wispy see through bangs can also soften the features. Stay away from blunt cuts and hard styles. Heart-Shaped Face Faces that are narrow at the bottom and wide at the top need a cut that hides the hairline with graduated bangs and a choppy style that flips out on the ends.
